Chapter 3 - The Monday Morning ExecutionThe executive boardroom on the forty-second floor of the Carter-Vance Commercial Tower was sleek, quiet, and dominated by a massive wall of glass overlooking the sprawling Phoenix skyline.

At 9:00 a.m. sharp, the double doors swung open.
Michael Coleman strode into the room, smoothing the lapels of his tailored charcoal suit. He had come directly from his architectural firm’s offices, buoyed by a smug sense of righteous grievance. He had spent the weekend drafting an ultimatum for Penelope, fully expecting her to beg for his forgiveness through her corporate lawyers.
Instead of Penelope’s legal team, however, he found three senior partners of the firm, a representative from the corporate compliance board, and two uniformed federal marshals standing near the windows.
Michael stopped dead in his tracks, his smug smile faltering. "What is this? I’m here to meet with the legal director regarding the new downtown cultural center architectural bids—"
"Mr. Coleman," interrupted Arthur Sterling, the senior managing partner of the firm, his voice flat and devoid of any professional warmth. "Please take a seat."
"I prefer to stand," Michael said defensively, crossing his arms. "Where is Penelope? I was told my wife—"
"Your former wife’s legal counsel has already filed for an expedited dissolution of marriage based on documented financial malfeasance, domestic abuse, and marital abandonment," Arthur interrupted coldly, sliding a thick manila folder across the polished mahogany table. "Furthermore, as of eight o'clock this morning, the board of directors has voted unanimously to terminate your firm’s primary contract with Carter-Vance Development due to severe breaches of fiduciary trust and fraudulent expense reporting."
The room seemed to tilt sideways. Michael’s breath hitched in his throat. "Terminate our contract? That contract is worth twelve million dollars! You can't just cancel it—my firm built its entire quarterly projection on those architectural fees!"
"We can, and we have," a calm, familiar voice spoke from the shadows near the private office door.
Penelope stepped out into the bright morning light. She wore an impeccably tailored navy suit, her hair styled with sharp precision, her posture radiating absolute authority. She didn't look like the woman who had been screamed at in her own kitchen three days ago. She looked like a queen surveying a traitorous subject.
"Penelope..." Michael stammered, his face draining of all color. "What... what is the meaning of this? Why are you here in Arthur's office?"
"Allow me to introduce myself properly, Michael," Penelope said smoothly, walking slowly toward the head of the table where Arthur deferentially stepped aside for her. "I am Penelope Carter. Not your struggling, small-town wife. I am the primary equity holder and legal director of Carter-Vance Development. This entire building, the subsidiary architectural firm that employs you, and the apartment you are currently squatting in belong to me."
Silence descended upon the boardroom—a heavy, suffocating silence broken only by the hum of the air conditioning.
Michael stared at her, his brain struggling to process the impossible math of her words. "You... you own the company? That's impossible. You're an associate legal director—"
"I was an undercover stakeholder," Penelope corrected sharply, opening the folder on the table. "I wanted to see if the man I married loved me for my mind, my partnership, and my heart, or if he was simply a parasite waiting for an inheritance. You and your mother answered that question definitively on Saturday morning."
"Penelope, please," Michael said, panic finally breaking through his arrogant facade as he took a desperate step forward. The two federal marshals immediately stepped into his path, their hands resting near their belts. "We can talk about this! It was a misunderstanding! Mom was just stressed, and I reacted out of anger—we can fix this, just drop the lawsuits, please!"
"There is nothing to fix," Penelope said, her voice dropping into a chilling, absolute register. "And that brings us to the second matter of this meeting."
She slid a second set of documents across the table.
"Federal marshals, please escort Mr. Coleman down to the lobby," Penelope instructed without breaking eye contact with her trembling husband. "The local precinct has issued a warrant for his arrest regarding the systematic embezzlement of corporate research grants to fund unauthorized personal luxuries for his mistress—a woman named Samantha Cole, whose apartment lease was traced directly through your corporate expense accounts last month."

Michael’s knees buckled. The color vanished entirely from his face, leaving him a ghastly, ash-gray. "You... you knew about Samantha?"
"I've known for four months," Penelope said quietly, closing the folder with a sharp snap. "I was simply waiting to see how far your greed would take you before you finally tripped over your own feet. Take him away."
