Chapter 6 - THE RED CARPET REVENGEThe grand ballroom of the Bennett Tower Hotel was a dazzling spectacle of crystal chandeliers, flowing champagne, and high-society glamour. Hundreds of Los Angeles's most influential business leaders, investors, and philanthropists milled about in designer gowns and bespoke tuxedos, laughing and networking beneath the vaulted ceilings.

When the private elevator doors at the end of the grand foyer opened, the ambient chatter in the room didn't just quiet down—it stopped entirely.

All eyes turned toward the entrance.

Sophia Bennett stepped out into the light.

She wore a backless, midnight-blue silk velvet gown that hugged her frame with effortless elegance, a single diamond pendant resting against her collarbone—a family heirloom that outshined every piece of jewelry in the room. Her hair was swept back into a sleek, sophisticated chignon, and her expression was a masterclass in cool, untouchable confidence.

She wasn't the naive, trusting bride who had been packed off to a wellness resort three months ago. She was the sole majority shareholder, the brilliant strategist, and the undisputed queen of the room.

Whispers immediately rippled through the crowd.

“Is that… isn't that Daniel Hart’s ex-wife?” “Ex-wife? Honey, she owns his entire company now. She foreclosed on him in twenty-four hours.” “Look at her… absolute ice.”

Sophia didn't blink. She didn't shrink under the weight of a hundred staring eyes. She offered a polite, distant smile to the assembly, her chin held high as she walked down the carpeted steps toward the center of the ballroom.

Several prominent tech executives—men who had previously looked through her or treated her like arm candy at past corporate functions—immediately stepped forward, raising their glasses with nervous, ingratiating smiles, eager to secure a moment of her time or a scrap of her attention.

She paused just long enough to exchange a polite, razor-sharp pleasantry with the CEO of a rival semiconductor firm, cutting through his corporate posturing with three perfectly chosen sentences that left him blinking in stunned admiration.

From across the room, Marcus watched her with a proud, knowing grin, raising his champagne flute in a silent salute.

Sophia raised her own glass of sparkling water in return, her gaze sweeping out over the glittering crowd, the opulent ballroom, and the sprawling city lights visible through the massive glass windows behind the stage.

They had tried to bury her in a wellness resort, to lock her out of her own life, and to treat her like a disposable footnote in their grand corporate scheme.

Instead, she had reclaimed her empire, burned their illusions to the ground, and built a throne out of the very ashes they had left behind.

She took a slow sip of her drink, a quiet, victorious smile touching her lips.

The game was over. And she had won it all.
