Chapter 6 - The Vineyard on the HillEighteen months later.

The Napa Valley sunshine was warm, golden, and entirely unhurried, casting a brilliant amber glow over acres of rolling green vineyards that stretched as far as the eye could see.
The restored historic estate—once her father’s failing winery, now completely revitalized through a multi-million-dollar private equity acquisition—buzzing with the soft hum of cheerful conversation, clinking crystal glasses, and distant acoustic guitar music.
It was their wedding day.
Sophie Bennett—now Sophie Romano—stood on the shaded veranda of the main villa, looking out over the valley. She wore a stunning, minimalist ivory lace gown that hugged her curves to absolute perfection, her dark curls cascading down her back, crowned with a delicate circlet of fresh lavender and ivy.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a hard, solid chest. Dante rested his chin on her shoulder, breathing in the scent of jasmine and vanilla from her hair.
"Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Romano," Dante murmured, his voice rich with affectionate amusement.
Sophie smiled, leaning back against him and placing her hands over his. "I was just thinking about the first time we met. Staring at a bottle of four-thousand-dollar Cabernet in your study, convinced I was about to be thrown into Lake Michigan."
Dante chuckled, turning her around gently so she was facing him. He looked breathtaking in a tailored linen suit, the fierce, intimidating mafia boss entirely replaced by a man deeply, unmistakably in love.
"If I had known back then that stealing my wine would lead to you taking over my life, my heart, and my entire corporate empire, I would have uncorked the cellar doors on day one," Dante said softly, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead.
"You did," Sophie teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "You left it right on the desk."
Dante grinned, a genuine, radiant smile that he reserved for her alone. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, heavy crystal bottle, uncorking it with a soft pop before pouring a small amount into two waiting glasses on the nearby table. He handed one to her.
"To the best audit mistake of my life," Dante toasted, raising his glass.
Sophie clinked her glass against his, the crystal chiming clear and bright across the California breeze.

"To new beginnings," she replied softly.
They drank together under the golden Napa sun, surrounded by the sweet scent of crushed grapes, polished wood, and an unshakeable, rock-solid future built on truth, courage, and a very expensive glass of stolen wine.
