Chapter 6 - The Foundation of TomorrowThe federal courthouse in downtown Manhattan was surrounded by media vans, satellite dishes, and a wall of federal marshals.

It was a trial that would dismantle the largest municipal corruption ring in the history of the state. Syndicate leaders, corrupt city councilmen, and bribed contractors sat in the defendant's box, staring blankly at the overwhelming mountain of digital evidence, municipal blueprints, and financial ledgers submitted by a special federal prosecutor’s office—backed by the unyielding legal weight of the Moretti estate and Victor Vance’s ironclad testimony.

Outside, the autumn sun shone brightly over the courthouse steps.

Elena stood near the granite pillars, wearing a tailored navy blue coat, holding a small bouquet of white orchids. Beside her stood Mia, holding a brightly colored juice box and wearing her favorite yellow rain boots.

A few feet away, Adrian Moretti leaned against the stone balustrade, watching the media frenzy with his hands in his pockets. He looked different than he had months ago—the harsh, impenetrable fortress around his heart had finally crumbled, replaced by a quiet, enduring strength.

Mia dropped her empty juice box, trotted over to Adrian, and tugged on his trouser leg.

Adrian looked down, his face softening instantly. He knelt on one knee.

“Yes, consultant?”

“Are we going to the beach now?” Mia asked brightly.

Adrian glanced up, his eyes meeting Elena’s across the stone landing. A warm, completely unreserved smile spread across his face—the kind of smile that didn't just reach his eyes, but lit up the entire space around him.

“We can go anywhere you want, Mia,” Adrian said softly, reaching out to take Elena’s hand as she walked over to join them. “We have all the time in the world.”

Elena intertwined her fingers with his, feeling the steady, unbreakable warmth of a man who had learned how to smile again, and a family that had finally found its way home.
