Chapter 6 - A New Horizon

Six months later, the autumn air in downtown Alexandria was crisp and refreshing, carrying the faint, earthy scent of falling leaves and roasted coffee from the local café down the street.
I sat at a rustic wooden table by the large glass window of my new apartment, a sunlit loft with high ceilings, exposed brick walls, and tall plants basking in the morning light. My graphic design agency was thriving, my clients respected my boundaries, and my nights were filled with deep, uninterrupted peace.
My phone buzzed on the table. It was a text message from David.
David: The divorce papers have been finalized. Mom has put the house on the market and moved into a small condo in Richmond. Chloe is in therapy and doing much better. I just wanted to say... thank you for saving us all from the dark. I hope you’re finding your peace.
I stared at the screen for a long moment. I didn't feel anger anymore. I didn't feel fear. I felt only a profound, unshakable lightness.
I typed a brief, kind reply wishing him well, then locked my phone and set it aside.
Arthur had been tried, convicted, and sentenced to a lengthy prison term, stripped of his pension, his status, and his freedom. The monsters who hide behind polite smiles and respected titles always believe their secrets are safe in the dark. But truth has a way of coming to light, no matter how deeply it is buried.

I picked up my steaming mug of coffee, walked over to the wide bay window, and looked out at the bustling street below. The sun was breaking through the morning clouds, casting a warm, golden glow across the pavement.
I took a deep sip, smiled to myself, and watched the world move forward—bright, clear, and entirely my own.
