Chapter 2 - The Invasion

The black SUV tore through the quiet, tree-lined avenues of San Pedro at breakneck speed, blowing through red lights and mounting curbs.
Inside the rear passenger cabin, Alejandro Vance adjusted his jacket, his dark eyes fixed on the tablet screen resting on his knee. Beside him sat Dr. Sofia Ramos, his family’s private chief of medicine, along with two paramedics holding emergency trauma kits. Behind them, two additional SUVs carrying security personnel followed in tight formation.
“We’re two minutes out, Mr. Vance,” the driver called back.
Alejandro’s face was carved from granite. Five years ago, when Mateo had executed a fraudulent corporate maneuver to steal their shared real estate firm, Alejandro had walked away without a word. He had built Vance Capital, rising to become one of the most powerful corporate figures in Northern Mexico. He had tolerated Mateo’s petty insults, his public taunts, and his endless posturing.
But Camila was where Alejandro’s restraint ended.
He had loved Camila quietly, respectfully, long before she married Mateo. When she chose Mateo, Alejandro had stepped back entirely, burying his feelings out of respect for her choice. But he knew Mateo’s character. He knew Mateo was a hollow, fragile man held together by ego and greed.
“Is the gate code working?” Dr. Ramos asked, checking her portable ultrasound unit.
“We don't have the gate code,” Alejandro said coldly. He picked up his radio. “Reyes. The primary gate is iron and automated. Don't waste time trying to override the keypad. Take it down.”
“Understood, sir,” the lead security vehicle replied over the comms.
Thirty seconds later, the convoy rounded the curve of Mateo’s estate. The imposing black wrought-iron gates stood shut, blocking the driveway.
The lead heavy-duty SUV didn't slow down. It accelerated, slamming directly into the center latch of the iron gates with a deafening metallic crunch. The hinges buckled, the lock sheared off, and the massive gates swung violently inward, scraping across the cobblestones.
The three vehicles roared up the circular driveway, spraying gravel, and slammed to a halt directly in front of the grand entrance.
Alejandro was out of the door before his vehicle stopped completely.
He marched up the front steps, grabbed a heavy iron sculpture from a decorative planter, and swung it with full force against the floor-to-ceiling glass door. The reinforced glass shattered in a cascade of crystal fragments.
Alejandro stepped through the frame, ignoring the sharp glass under his boots.
“Camila!” his voice boomed through the high-ceilinged foyer.
He saw her immediately.
She lay curled at the foot of the marble stairs, a pool of dark red spreading across the white floor beneath her pale yellow nightgown. She was entirely motionless.
Alejandro’s breath caught in his throat. In two long strides, he was on his knees beside her, his large hands carefully cradling her shoulders without moving her spine.
“Camila... Camila, look at me,” he pleaded, his usual icy composure cracking.
Her eyelids fluttered weakly. Her skin was as cold as the marble beneath her. “Alejandro...?”
“I’m here. I’m right here,” he said softly, his fingers brushing a damp lock of hair from her forehead.
Dr. Ramos and the paramedics swarmed the foyer, setting down emergency equipment.
“Vitals are crashing!” Dr. Ramos yelled, placing a pulse oximeter on Camila’s finger while applying a portable Doppler probe to her abdomen. “Blood pressure is 70 over 40. She’s in hypovolemic shock. Fetal heartbeat is dangerously low—bradycardia. We have a placental abruption. If we don't get this baby out in twenty minutes, we lose them both!”
“Can we move her?” Alejandro demanded, his hand gripping Camila’s small, shivering fingers.
“No time for a hospital transport—she’ll bleed out in the ambulance,” Dr. Ramos said urgently, looking Alejandro dead in the eye. “I need a sterile environment NOW. My mobile surgical unit is in the second truck. We perform an emergency C-section on the lawn in the vehicle or we watch them die right here.”
“Do it,” Alejandro ordered without hesitation. “Reyes! Secure the perimeter. Get the mobile surgical suite powered up. No one enters this property!”
As the paramedics carefully lifted Camila onto a specialized spine-board, Alejandro picked up her cracked phone from the floor. He tapped the screen. The display lit up briefly, showing the last outbound call: Mateo (17 calls - Unanswered).
Alejandro’s eyes narrowed, a dark, lethal quiet settling over him.
He looked at Reyes, his head of security. “Find out where Mateo is right now.”
Reyes pulled out a handheld frequency scanner and tapped a few keys. “His car’s GPS tracking signal is active at El Cielo club in San Pedro, sir. VIP section.”
Alejandro handed the cracked phone to Reyes.
“Call my legal team,” Alejandro said, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying register. “Tell them to execute Phase Four. I want every asset tied to Mateo’s accounts frozen by dawn. I want his credit lines pulled, his properties impounded, and his investors notified of immediate forensic audits.”
Reyes nodded grimly. “And Mateo, sir?”

Alejandro looked down at the bloodstains ruining the pristine marble floor of the house Mateo had built to flex his pride.
“Leave him at the club,” Alejandro said quietly. “Let him enjoy his mezcal. The higher he feels tonight, the harder he hits the ground tomorrow.”
