Chapter 5 - CLEANSING THE ESTATEBy late afternoon, three large industrial moving vans were parked in the circular driveway of the Walker estate. A team of professional movers, supervised directly by Marcus Vance, was systematically clearing the house.

Sebastian walked through the heavy front doors, his footsteps echoing through the wide marble foyer. The atmosphere of the house had changed completely. The cold, sterile, oppressive feeling that had hung over the estate for months seemed to be lifting as Veronica’s personal possessions were packed away into plain cardboard boxes.
Designer dresses worth tens of thousands of dollars, rare silk shawls, custom shoes, diamond jewelry, and expensive art pieces that Veronica had purchased using stolen funds were being logged, sealed, and loaded into secure transport vehicles to be turned over to the court receiver for liquidation.
Sebastian walked up the grand staircase and entered the master suite.
The room was empty save for a single leather armchair sitting near the balcony. Standing near the closet was Veronica’s personal assistant, a young woman named Clara, who was weeping quietly as she packed her own belongings.
When Clara saw Sebastian enter, she dropped her bag and fell to her knees, trembling with fear.
“Mr. Walker... please!” Clara sobbed. “I didn't know the extent of it! I swear I didn't know! Mrs. Walker told me your mother was violent... she told me the drugs were prescribed by a doctor! If I had known she was hurting her, I would have called the police!”
Sebastian looked at the young woman, his voice quiet but stern. “You saw my mother carrying heavy loads, Clara. You saw her without her cane. You saw her crying in the kitchen late at night.”
“I was terrified of losing my job, sir!” Clara cried out, her shoulders shaking violently. “Mrs. Walker threatened to ruin my references! She said she would make sure I never worked in this city again! I have a younger brother with disability expenses... I needed the money...”
Sebastian looked at the young assistant for a long moment. He recognized the pattern—Veronica had built a culture of absolute terror and dependence around herself, exploiting the vulnerable positions of everyone in the household to ensure total compliance.
“Get up, Clara,” Sebastian said gently.
Clara wiped her eyes and slowly stood up, looking at him with wide, fearful eyes.
“You are not going to be charged as an accomplice,” Sebastian told her softly. “My legal team reviewed your text messages with Veronica. It’s clear she manipulated and intimidated you. But you cannot stay here.”
“I understand, Mr. Walker... I’ll pack my things and leave immediately,” Clara whispered, bowing her head.
“Marcus will provide you with three months of severance pay,” Sebastian added as he walked toward the balcony doors. “Use it to find a job with an employer who doesn't force you to compromise your humanity.”
Clara stared at him in utter shock, tears streaming down her face once more. “Thank you, Mr. Walker... thank you so much...”
She quickly gathered her bag and left the room, closing the door behind her.
Sebastian stepped out onto the balcony, looking out over the sprawling green gardens of the estate. In the center of the lawn stood a massive, centuries-old oak tree—a tree that his mother had admired when she had first visited the property two years ago.
He remembered her sitting on the bench beneath those wide, leafy branches, holding baby Noah in her arms, singing an old folk song from her hometown while the afternoon sun filtered through the leaves. She had looked so peaceful then, so proud of the life her son had created.
“Look at this tree, Sebastian,” she had whispered to him that afternoon, her voice filled with quiet wonder. “It has deep roots. That’s why it stands strong through every storm. Never forget where your roots are, my boy.”
He had forgotten. He had allowed himself to be blinded by the glittering lights of high society, by the cold prestige of corporate acquisitions, by a marriage built on ambition rather than love and mutual respect.
He walked down the long corridor toward the nursery.
The heavy wooden doors were open. Inside, two certified pediatric nurses—hired personally by Dr. Chen—were gently feeding Noah and Luke. The babies were clean, warm, and dressed in soft cotton onesies. When Noah saw Sebastian walk into the room, he let out a joyful, gurgling babble and reached his tiny hands out into the air.
Sebastian felt a sudden, powerful wave of emotion crash through his chest. He walked over to the crib, picked up both of his sons, and held them tightly against his chest, burying his face in their soft hair.
“I’m so sorry,” Sebastian whispered to the babies, his voice cracking with emotion as tears finally spilled from his eyes. “I’m so sorry I wasn't here to protect you. I’m so sorry I let her touch you.”
Luke reached up with a tiny, chubby hand and touched Sebastian’s cheek, his bright blue eyes looking up at his father with absolute trust and innocence.
“Mr. Walker?” one of the nurses said gently, stepping forward with a warm smile. “Dr. Chen just called from the hospital. Your mother has woken up from her rest, and her vitals are completely stable. She’s asking to see her grandbabies.”

Sebastian wiped his eyes with his sleeve, looked down at his sons, and felt a profound sense of clarity wash over his soul.
“Prepare the travel seats,” Sebastian said, a warm, genuine smile breaking across his face for the first time in days. “We’re going to bring Mom home.”
