Chapter 5 - Reclaiming the Crown
Three months later, the spring sun was shining brightly over the Manhattan skyline.
Inside the executive boardroom on the forty-third floor of Carter Global, a very different meeting was taking place.
Following Michael’s permanent ouster and the subsequent restructuring of the executive committee, the board of directors had spent weeks searching for a crisis management strategist capable of steering the multi-national conglomerate through its post-scandal reorganization and restoring investor confidence.
They hadn't needed to look very far.
The heavy double doors opened, and Claire Carter walked into the boardroom.
She wore a sharp, tailored ivory pantsuit that commanded immediate attention, her head held high, carrying a sleek leather portfolio bearing her maiden name embossed in gold foil: Claire Sterling-Carter.
Around the mahogany table sat the remaining board members, including Thomas Vance and Miriam Vance. Gone were the tense, panicked expressions of the winter audit. Instead, expectant silence greeted her entrance.
Thomas Vance stood up, extending his hand across the polished wood.
"Welcome back, Claire," Thomas said respectfully. "Or should I say, Madame Chairperson."
Claire shook his hand firmly, her grip steady and assured. She took her seat at the head of the table—not as the CEO’s supportive wife sitting quietly in the background, but as the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Carter Global, backed by a controlling block of shares and the unanimous vote of the restructuring committee.

"Let’s get to work," she said.
