Chapter 6 - The Full Circle

Six months after taking the helm, Claire stood on the private wrap-around balcony of her penthouse office, looking out over the glittering expanse of the city that never sleeps.
The corporate restructuring of Carter Global had been an unqualified success. Revenue was up twenty percent, compliance protocols had been overhauled from top to bottom, and the company’s reputation had recovered stronger and cleaner than it had been in a decade.
Her phone buzzed on the glass patio table beside her iced latte.
She glanced down at the screen. An unknown number.
For a brief second, she wondered if it was him—calling from some dreary suburban apartment or a cheap hotel, realizing too late what he had thrown away for a momentary distraction.
She didn't pick it up.
Instead, she let it ring out, watching the notification fade into silence against the bright afternoon light.
She didn't need to answer unknown numbers anymore. She no longer had to wait for proof, or wonder what was happening behind closed doors, or question her own value in a world built on fleeting illusions.
Inside the office, her assistant stepped out onto the balcony with a fresh stack of partnership proposals.
"Mr. Sterling needs your signature on the London acquisition papers, Madame CEO," her assistant said with a polite smile.

Claire turned away from the railing, her heart light, her mind entirely unburdened by the past.
"Bring them in," she said, walking back into an office she had earned, a life she had protected, and a future entirely her own.
