Chapter 6 - A Brand New Canvas

Over the next six months, the legal storm brought down upon Brandon Hayes played out with devastating precision.

With the mountain of evidence gathered by federal auditors, Brandon’s legal defense collapsed instantly. Deprived of his vast wealth and unable to afford high-priced defense attorneys, he was forced to rely on a court-appointed public defender. The court found him guilty of multiple counts of corporate tax fraud, wire fraud, and grand embezzlement. Combined with his domestic assault charges, he was sentenced to twelve years in federal prison.

While Brandon was being led away in handcuffs to serve his sentence, my life was undergoing a breathtaking transformation.

With my father’s quiet guidance and the support of a powerful legal team, I liquidated the remaining legally seized marital assets that were rightfully awarded to me as restitution. Instead of sitting idly on the money, I decided to build something of my own.

For years, Brandon had ridiculed my passion for interior design and architecture, telling me I was useless without his income. Now, I used my talent and resources to launch my own luxury architecture and design firm: Vance & Co. Designs.

Within months, my firm landed several high-profile commercial and residential projects, rapidly growing into a highly respected brand in the city. For the first time in my adult life, I was standing on my own two feet, financially independent, respected, and thriving.

My daughters blossomed in our new environment. Ella, Maya, Lily, and Sophie thrived at their prestigious new school, excelling in arts, academics, and sports. The dark shadow of fear that had once loomed over our household was completely gone, replaced by laughter, warmth, and unconditional love.

Little Leo grew into a happy, energetic baby boy. His bright blue eyes—the signature mark of the Vance family lineage—were full of life and curiosity. Every afternoon, my father would take Leo for walks around the estate gardens, teaching him the names of trees and birds, filling the boy’s world with gentle strength and wisdom.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the estate, my father and I sat on the wide outdoor patio, sipping tea while watching the girls play tag on the lawn.

"You've built a good life here, Clara," Dad said softly, looking at me with immense pride in his eyes.

"We built it together, Dad," I smiled, leaning over to hug his arm. "If you hadn't walked through that hospital door that day..."

"I would have torn the world apart to protect you, sweetheart," Dad interrupted gently. "A father’s job is never finished. But now, you don't need my protection anymore. You are strong enough to protect yourself."
