Chapter 6 - A New Dawn at Moreland ManorThree months later, the morning sun poured through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the newly renovated Moreland Tower penthouse in Manhattan, casting a warm, golden glow across a room filled with laughter, life, and absolute peace.

Downstairs in the Westchester mansion, Victoria and Marcus Sterling were currently standing trial in a federal courtroom, facing multiple counts of grand larceny, corporate fraud, securities manipulation, and criminal conspiracy—with charges that legal experts predicted would guarantee both of them life sentences behind bars without the possibility of parole. The Moreland Pediatric Foundation had been fully audited, recovered, and expanded, now bearing a special wing dedicated to independent child advocacy and family protection.
In the center of the penthouse living room, baby Leo—now a bouncing, giggling eleven-month-old taking his very first independent steps—waddled across the plush Persian rug straight toward Sarah, who knelt on the floor with her arms open wide.
Leo crashed happily into her embrace, sending them both tumbling backward onto the rug with a burst of infectious laughter.
Standing by the kitchen island, holding two mugs of freshly brewed artisanal coffee, Richard Moreland watched them with a soft, genuine smile that had been entirely foreign to his face just a few months ago. He walked over, handing one of the mugs to Sarah as she scooped Leo up into her arms, adjusting her emerald-green silk blouse.
"You know," Richard said, leaning against the edge of the sofa and looking down at her with warm, undeniable affection, "the board of directors met yesterday. They unanimously voted to approve your permanent appointment as the executive director of the new Moreland Family Foundation."
Sarah raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk touching her lips. "Is that so? And when were you planning on informing me of my promotion, Mr. Moreland?"
"Right now," Richard smiled, reaching out to gently brush a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear. His fingers brushed against her cheek, lingering there for a tender moment. "Though I was hoping that title came with a clause."
"What clause would that be?" Sarah asked softly, her breath catching slightly as his gaze deepened.
"That the executive director agrees to stay in this house permanently," Richard said, his voice dropping into a warm, resonant whisper, "not just as a guardian for my son, but as a partner for the rest of my life."
Sarah looked down at Leo, who was happily chewing on a wooden teething ring, and then back up into Richard’s eyes. The fear, the trauma, and the shadows of the past winter had entirely melted away, replaced by the unbreakable foundation of trust, courage, and unconditional love they had built together in the dark.
She smiled, leaning her forehead gently against his shoulder.

"I think," Sarah whispered, "that's a contract I'm willing to sign for life."
Outside, the bright New York sun rose fully over the skyline, illuminating a future where no one would ever dare call her worthless again, because she had finally found a home where she was everything.
