Chapter 6 - The Empire and the QueenSix months later.

The sun was setting over Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant, amber-gold light across the glass penthouse patio of the newly constructed Falco-Bennett Tower along the Chicago riverfront.

Music filled the soft evening air as over two hundred guests—the city's top legal minds, corporate leaders, and community figures—gathered to celebrate the formal launch of the Bennett Foundation for Justice, a non-profit legal initiative founded by Harper to provide elite corporate defense for victims of workplace harassment and financial abuse.

Harper stood near the edge of the glass balcony, holding a flute of vintage champagne. She wore a breathtaking, floor-length white silk gown that caught the evening breeze. Her dark hair fell in soft curls over her shoulders, and her skin radiated health, happiness, and supreme confidence.

A pair of strong arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a broad, warm chest.

"You're ignoring your guests, Counselor," Roman whispered in her ear, his lips brushing against her neck, making her shiver with delight.

Harper leaned back into his embrace, turning her head to smile up at him. "I'm the founder. I'm allowed to take a break with the man who built the building."

Roman smiled, his dark eyes brimming with an warmth he reserved only for her. Over the past year, the city of Chicago had watched in awe as the terrifying, elusive logistics magnate transformed into a devoted, hopelessly captivated partner. He still ruled his empire with an iron fist, but everyone knew that the real power behind the throne belonged to Harper Bennett.

"How does it feel?" Roman asked softly, looking out at the glittering skyline below them. "Knowing that this city belongs to you?"

"It doesn't belong to me, Roman," Harper said, reaching up to gently touch the faint scar on his jawline. "It belongs to us."

Roman reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a small, black velvet box.

Harper’s breath caught in her throat.

Roman slowly dropped to one knee on the marble patio terrace. The chatter among the guests nearby instantly died down as people turned to watch, gasping in delight.

Inside the velvet box rested a magnificent, flawless ten-carat emerald-cut diamond ring, flashing brilliantly in the golden sunset light.

"Harper Bennett," Roman said, his deep voice carrying a quiet, intense conviction that made her eyes fill with tears of pure joy. "A year ago, I kissed you in a crowded ballroom to protect your pride. Tonight, I ask you to let me spend the rest of my life protecting your heart. Will you marry me?"

Harper didn't hesitate. She didn't look around at the watching crowd or the flashing lights of the city below. She looked straight into the eyes of the man who had stood by her when everything broke, who had loved her fiercely, and who had given her an empire built on truth.

"Yes," Harper whispered, tears of joy spilling down her cheeks. "Yes, Roman! Absolutely yes!"

Roman stood up, sliding the ring onto her finger before pulling her into his arms and kissing her deeply under the warm Chicago stars.

The crowd on the balcony erupted into roaring applause and cheers, raising their glasses to the couple.

Harper rested her head against Roman’s chest, listening to the steady, strong beat of his heart. The past, the pain, and the betrayal were gone, replaced by a love that was unshakeable, powerful, and entirely theirs.

She had stood still while her world broke—and in the ashes, she had found her empire.
