Chapter 5 - The Mastermind's CollapseRichard Vance didn't turn around. He kept his firearm trained on Clara, a cold, psycho-pathic laugh escaping his throat.

"A stun gun against a nine-millimeter, Julian?" Richard mocked. "You won't shoot. If you miss, I put a bullet through Eleanor’s twin sister before you can take another breath."

"You're right," Julian said calmly. "I won't shoot."

Julian pressed a button on the garage wall control panel beside his shoulder.

Instantly, the massive, automated steel garage doors behind Richard began to roll open with a deafening, mechanical roar.

Outside, the quiet night was suddenly flooded by blinding blue and red strobe lights. High-powered spotlights cut through the darkness, illuminating the garage in a dazzling, white glare that blinded Richard Vance instantly.

"FEDERALLY PROTECTED ASSET CODE RED!" a booming voice echoed from a megaphoned police vehicle parked across the driveway. "DROP YOUR WEAPON IMMEDIATELY! YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY STATE POLICE AND FBI FINANCIAL CRIMES TASK FORCE!"

Richard stumbled back in shock, shielding his eyes from the blinding glare. "What... what is this?!"

Julian smiled, his face dark and cold. "Did you really think I spent six months doing nothing, Richard? I knew Eleanor’s death was suspicious weeks ago. I hired my own private intelligence firm to monitor every offshore transaction made by Vance & Associates. We were just waiting for you to commit an overt act of physical threat on state soil to trigger the federal arrest warrants."

Over a dozen heavily armed FBI tactical officers poured into the garage, their laser sights painting bright red dots across Richard Vance’s chest and head.

"DROP THE WEAPON! NOW!" the commander bellowed.

Richard looked around wildly. His tactical guards were already being dragged out of the mansion in handcuffs by state troopers. Evelyn Sterling stood near the front gates, weeping in shame as federal agents presented her with a subpoena for corporate compliance auditing.

The attorney’s hands began to shake violently. Realizing that his ten-year empire of blackmail, forgery, and murder had completely collapsed in a matter of minutes, his gun clattered onto the concrete floor.

Two tactical officers tackled Richard to the ground, pinning his arms behind his back and snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

As Richard was hauled to his feet, his pristine suit ruined, he looked at Clara with pure, unadulterated hatred. "You ruined me..." he spat.

Clara walked past him without giving him a single glance. She stopped in front of Julian.

Julian dropped his weapon, stepped forward, and pulled Clara and little Leo into a tight, overwhelming embrace.

Outside, under the flashing blue lights of justice, the dark cloud that had hovered over the Sterling family for a decade was finally shattered by the bright, unstoppable light of truth.
