Chapter 3 - Unraveling the NetThe confidence my family had displayed for months shattered into frantic chaos. Natalie stood up so quickly her chair tumbled backward onto the carpet.

"Andrew! You can't do this to us! We're your family!" she screamed, her voice cracking as tears of anger began to ruin her makeup. "We did everything for you! That girl is a nobody! She took you away from us!"
"She didn't take me anywhere," I said, my voice dangerously low. "You drove me away with your greed. You starved my wife. You bruised her body. You made my five-year-old son eat stale bread off the floor while you ate steak at my table. You aren't family. You're parasites."
My father attempted to regain his footing, adjusting his suit jacket and putting on a stern mask. "Now see here, Andrew. You've made some money, but don't forget who raised you. If you attempt to press charges or cut us off, I will tie your company up in litigation for years. I know the investors. I know the board members. I'll destroy your reputation before you can finish this audit!"
I let out a short, bitter laugh. "You really don't check the news, do you, Dad?"
Arthur turned the tablet toward my father. On the screen was a live press release and financial breakdown from Vanguard Cybersecurity's legal department.
"Two weeks ago, after noticing discrepancies in our corporate overhead accounts, I ordered a forensic audit of all regional accounts managed by your subsidiary," I explained. "We discovered that you, Dad, have embezzled over $2.4 million from company funds to cover your gambling debts in Atlantic City. And Natalie... those designer clothes and diamond bracelets weren't bought with your social media earnings. You’ve been using company expense accounts to pay for your luxury lifestyle."
Natalie gasped, putting her hands over her mouth.
"The board already held an emergency vote at 6:00 AM this morning," I continued. "Your positions have been terminated. Your access passes are revoked. Your personal assets, which were tied as collateral to the family trust, have been frozen by court order to recover the stolen funds."
"You... you ruined us!" Eleanor sobbed, falling back onto the sofa, clutching her chest dramaticaly. "Your own mother! How could you be so heartless?!"
"Heartless?" Clara spoke up for the first time, her voice no longer trembling, but filled with a quiet, fierce strength. She stepped forward next to me, holding her pregnant stomach high. "You locked me in a room without food for two days while Andrew was away. You told my son his father didn't love him. You don't get to talk about heart, Eleanor."

Just then, the heavy double doors of the conference room opened. Two uniformed police officers stepped inside, accompanied by Detective Miller, an investigator from the Special Crimes Division.
"Richard, Eleanor, and Natalie Vance?" Detective Miller asked, holding a folder of warrants. "You are under arrest for grand larceny, corporate fraud, felony child endangerment, and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault."
