Chapter 4 - The Secrets in the VaultAs the officers cuffed my father and sister, Natalie threw a frantic look back at my mother. "Mom! Do something! Tell them about the offshore account! Tell them!"

My father turned around, glaring at Natalie with pure fury. "Shut your mouth, you fool!"

Detective Miller paused, looking between my father and sister. "Offshore account? That's interesting. We'll be taking all your electronic devices for forensic analysis."

As the police led them out of the office in handcuffs—their screams of protest echoing down the quiet marble hallway—Arthur motioned for Clara and me to sit back down. The immediate danger was gone, but Arthur’s solemn expression told me the nightmare wasn't fully over.

"Andrew, while the criminal charges against them are ironclad, our digital investigation into your father’s accounts yielded something else," Arthur said, opening a secure laptop. "When we breached his private server to track the embezzled $2.4 million, we uncovered a series of encrypted communications dating back three years."

I frowned, holding Clara’s hand tightly. "Communications with who?"

"With Clara’s former employer, Apex Logistics," Arthur revealed.

Clara gasped, her hand tightening around mine. Three years ago, right before we got married, Clara had been abruptly fired from her managerial position at Apex under false allegations of gross misconduct. The disgrace had crushed her self-esteem and left her deeply in debt, making her financially dependent on me—a fact my family had endlessly weaponized to label her a "gold-digger."

"What does my father have to do with Apex Logistics?" I asked, my blood running cold.

"Your father paid Clara’s supervisor at Apex over $50,000 to fabricate evidence of theft against her," Arthur explained, pushing a stack of printed emails across the table. "He wanted to destroy her reputation so that when you married her, she would have no financial independence, no career to fall back on, and no credibility if she ever tried to tell you about how they treated her. They deliberately isolated her from the very beginning."

Tears streamed down Clara’s cheeks, but this time they were not tears of fear; they were tears of profound relief. For three years, she had carried the silent shame of a ruined career, believing she was a failure who didn't deserve a place in my world.

"It wasn't me..." Clara sobbed, burying her face in my shoulder. "Andrew, I never stole anything. I swore to you I didn't..."

"I know, baby. I know," I whispered, kissing her hair while a burning resolve settled into my heart. "Arthur, I want Apex Logistics audited. I want the supervisor who took that bribe ruined. And I want Clara’s name cleared publicly in every business journal in this city."

"Already in motion," Arthur replied with a stern smile. "In fact, with the evidence we have, Clara has grounds for a massive civil lawsuit against both Apex and your father's estate. She will likely walk away owning a controlling stake in the property assets they tried to steal from her."
