Chapter 9 - The Phoenix RisesSix months after the fall of Julian Vance and the Cole family, the grand reopening of the Moretti Estate in the Hudson Valley was the premier social event of the year.

The estate, which had been in our family for three generations, had been completely restored. The high iron gates were open wide, illuminated by warm golden lights, welcoming hundreds of international dignitaries, CEOs, ambassadors, and genuine friends.
Music played softly from a live orchestra near the marble fountain.
I stood on the grand balcony, wearing a striking deep emerald gown, my hair styled in elegant waves, holding a glass of champagne. I looked out over the thriving crowd, feeling completely whole.
Dominic walked out onto the balcony, sliding his hands into the pockets of his black tuxedo. He stood beside me, looking out at the grounds.
"You look beautiful tonight, Elena," Dominic said softly.
"I feel free, Dominic," I replied, looking up at my older brother. "For so long, I thought freedom meant hiding from who I was. I thought if I acted small, people wouldn't hurt me."
"And now?"
"Now I know that true freedom is standing in your own power," I said firmly. "Never apologizing for your strength, and never letting anyone make you shrink so they can feel big."
Dominic smiled—a rare, genuine expression that reached his eyes. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close. "Dad would be so proud of the woman you’ve become."
Below us, Luca, Matteo, Gabriel, and Nico were talking with an international delegation from London, laughing and raising their glasses in a toast.
My life was no longer defined by the blood-stained silk dress, the leather belt, or the humiliation in that cold ballroom. Those painful memories had become the bedrock upon which I built my true empire.
My phone buzzed softly in my hand. I pulled it out and looked at the screen.
It was an automated notification from the state penitentiary database: INMATE #88392 (COLE, ADRIAN) - VISITOR REQUEST DENIED.
I tapped the screen once, deleting the notification permanently, and slid the phone back into my small clutch bag.

"Ready to go down and meet the guests, Boss?" Dominic joked softly.
I laughed—a light, joyful sound that echoed across the balcony. "Lead the way, big brother."
