Chapter 2 - The House of CardsThe morning sun cast a harsh, unforgiving light across the Manhattan skyline, but inside the private executive suite of Moretti Enterprises overlooking the Hudson River, the room remained shrouded in heavy shadow..

The door swung open, and Vincent Moretti walked in, rolling up his sleeves as if preparing for a day of routine paperwork. He poured himself a cup of espresso, took a slow sip, and finally looked at the trembling wreck tied to the chair.

"Do you know what Vance Holdings is built on, Brandon?" Vincent asked calmly, leaning against the edge of a minimalist glass desk.

Brandon whimpered, his eyes bloodshot. "Please... I have money. I can give you millions. Whatever Emma wants—company shares, the Miami properties—she can have it all. Just let me go."

Vincent chuckled—a dry, humorless sound. "Money. You think your little corporate hustle is an empire? Vance Holdings was built on a series of predatory loans, shell companies, and fraudulent asset transfers that your father-in-law—me—chose to look the other way on because Emma loved you."

Brandon’s jaw dropped. "What... what are you talking about?"

"For ten years, every major contract you landed, every venture capital firm that funded your tech startups, every board seat you secured—do you think that was your charm?" Vincent walked closer, leaning down until his face was inches from Brandon's. "That was my invisible hand. I bought your success, Brandon. I kept your rivals from destroying you before you even started. And the moment my daughter walked into your house, caught you in bed with a cheap interloper, and you lifted your hand against her... you signed your own liquidation order."

Before Brandon could form a coherent sentence, the heavy double doors flew open. Marcus Vance, Brandon’s father and the nominal patriarch of Vance Holdings, rushed into the room, flanked by two frantic corporate attorneys. Marcus’s face was purple with rage and panic.

"This is an outrage!" Marcus bellowed, pointing a shaking finger at Vincent. "You can't just snatch my son off the street! We’ve already contacted federal authorities—"

Vincent didn't even flinch. He gestured lazily to Tony, who stepped forward and tossed a thick manila folder onto the conference table in front of Marcus.

"Open it," Vincent said.

Marcus's chief attorney nervously stepped forward, unclasped the folder, and began scanning the pages. Within seconds, all the color drained from the lawyer's face. He looked up at Marcus with wide, terrified eyes.

"Sir... it's all here," the lawyer whispered, his voice shaking. "Tax evasion, insider trading, offshore accounts in the Caymans, falsified SEC filings... every single transaction from the last fifteen years. It's an airtight federal indictment."

Marcus stared at Vincent in sheer horror. "You... you can't prove any of this. It's circumstantial—"

"It's already sitting on the desk of the Assistant U.S. Attorney General," Vincent replied smoothly, taking another sip of his espresso. "Along with a complete, signed confession from your son’s accountant, who was kind enough to cooperate with us around three o'clock this morning. By noon today, the SEC will freeze all Vance Holdings assets. By tonight, your stock will be trading at zero, and your board of directors will be voting to oust you both to save their own skins."

"You're insane!" Marcus shouted, lunging forward. Tony stepped into his path, casually pressing the palm of his hand against Marcus's chest and sending him stumbling backward into the furniture.

"You had twenty-five years to figure out who I am, Marcus," Vincent said, his voice dropping to a chilling whisper. "You thought the Moretti name was a myth of the old days. You thought you could treat my flesh and blood like trash because you forgot whose blood runs in her veins. Now, get out of my office before I decide your attorneys need to join your son in the basement."

Marcus looked at his son, then at Vincent’s cold, unyielding expression. Realizing the total annihilation of everything they had built, Marcus collapsed into a chair, burying his face in his hands as the reality of their destruction set in.
