Chapter 3 - The ReconstructionAcross town, in the expansive, light-filled penthouse of a restored art deco building overlooking Central Park, Emma Moretti stood before a wall-to-ceiling mirror. She wore a tailored white silk blouse and high-waisted black trousers, her posture straight and commanding. Beneath the immaculate styling, her ribs still taped tightly and aching with a dull, persistent throb, but every breath she took felt stronger than the last.

The private elevator chime pinged, and the doors slid open. Her father stepped out, carrying a small velvet box in his hand. He stopped a few feet away, studying her with a rare expression of deep paternal pride.

"The doctor said you should be resting," Vincent said softly.

Emma turned, offering him a faint, knowing smile. "Resting is for people who are waiting to recover, Dad. I have a company to reclaim."

Vincent smiled, stepping forward and opening the velvet box. Inside rested a heavy, platinum key encrusted with delicate sapphire baguettes—the master key to Moretti Global’s high-end architectural and design division, a sleeping giant of luxury real estate development that Vincent had kept running in secret under a holding company for years, waiting for the day his daughter might finally step into her true legacy.

"It was always yours, Emma," Vincent said, holding out the key. "I just built the foundation so you wouldn't have to start from the dirt like I did."

Emma took the key, feeling its heavy, cool metal against her palm. "Brandon and Ashley thought I was nothing without him," she said quietly, her eyes flashing with a brilliant, steely light. "They thought my career, my success, my life was just an extension of his ego. They forgot that long before I ever met Brandon Vance, I was designing billion-dollar layouts for European royalty while he was still trying to secure a basic commercial lease."

"Speaking of your former husband and his lovely companion," Vincent said, pulling a tablet from his coat pocket, "the corporate board of Vance Holdings held an emergency vote at eight o'clock this morning. Brandon has been stripped of his title, his shares have been seized to cover corporate liabilities, and Ashley... well, Ashley found out this morning that her name was never actually on any of the apartment leases or joint accounts Brandon promised her. She's currently packing her bags out of the Westchester mansion while the banks change the locks."

Emma walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out over the city where she had once felt so small and confined. "Let her keep the bags. She'll need them when she realizes what kind of man she traded her integrity for."

"What are your next steps?" Vincent asked, standing beside her.

"Vance Holdings is in receivership," Emma said, her voice crisp and decisive. "And their crown jewel—the fifty-story commercial skyscraper project in midtown Manhattan—is currently stalled because their lead architectural firm walked out yesterday."

Vincent raised an eyebrow. "Are you saying you want to acquire it?"

May you like

"I'm saying I want to buy the entire block for pennies on the dollar," Emma replied, turning to face him with a razor-sharp business smile. "Then I'm going to demolish the old Vance corporate tower, redesign the entire master plan from scratch, and build something so magnificent that every time Brandon walks past it on his way to federal prison, he'll be forced to look at what true vision actually looks like."

Vincent threw his head back and laughed—a rich, booming sound that echoed through the penthouse. "That’s my girl. Tell Tony what you need. Every resource I have is yours."
